Product Description
Protects Against Engine Wear
AMSOIL 0W20 Signature Series Synthetic Motor Oil produces a thick fluid coating between metal surfaces, reducing wear in metal-to-metal contact regions for extended engine life.

The IVA Sequence Engine Test simulates long periods of stop-and-go driving and must be passed in order to meet the API SN criteria. For 100 hours, the test engine alternates between 50 minutes of idling and 10 minutes of high rpm, inducing engine wear.

After that, the camshaft is assessed for wear in 84 different spots, and an average score is calculated. To make the test even more difficult, we chose Signature Series 0W-20, the line's lightest viscosity. AMSOIL 0W-20 Signature Series Synthetic Motor Oil offers 75 percent greater engine protection against horsepower loss and wear1 than the industry norm, allowing crucial components like pistons and cams to last longer.

Protects Pistons from Low-Speed Pre-Ignition
Signature Series is equipped with a cutting-edge detergent system that guards against harmful deposits and low-speed pre-ignition (LSPI). To boost power and improve fuel economy, most new engines use gasoline direct injection (GDI), which is often combined with a turbocharger. When these new technologies are combined with a poorly formulated motor oil, LSPI is promoted and engine performance is jeopardized. The spontaneous ignition of the fuel/air mixture before spark-triggered ignition is known as LSPI. It is much more destructive than typical pre-ignition in today's advanced engines. A properly formulated motor oil is essential for engine protection.

Original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) such as General Motors (GM)* have addressed the problem by developing tests to determine the ability of a motor oil to prevent LSPI. In the engine test required by the GM dexos1 Gen 2 specification, AMSOIL 0W20 Signature Series Synthetic Motor Oil provided 100 percent protection against LSPI1 with zero occurrences over five consecutive tests.

Turbochargers are safeguarded.
Our proprietary synthetic formulation is designed to withstand oxidation and neutralize acids. The AMSOIL 0W20 Signature Series Motor Oil protects against deposits that are common in high-temperature engine environments. Turbo coking is a process in which some oils break down and form harmful bearing deposits as a result of the extreme heat and stress that turbos generate. Turbos can lose performance or even fail completely over time.

The GM Turbo Coking Test, which consists of 2000 cycles of extreme heat soaks, was used to put Signature Series to the test. To pass the test, an oil must keep the temperature change within the turbocharger to less than 13%. The temperature increase was limited to only 3.6 percent, protecting the turbocharger 72 percent better than the GM dexos1® Gen 2 specification2.

Extends Drains: Protection Guaranteed
AMSOIL 0W20 Signature Series Synthetic Motor Oil has reserve protection, which means you may go longer between oil changes if you want to – up to 25,000 miles, 700 hours of operation, or one year*, whichever comes first*. Our intrinsically stable synthetic formulation and long-drain additive system resist oxidation and neutralize acids for longer periods of time. The Signature Series is engineered to provide superior engine protection, cleanliness, and performance over long drain intervals. It gives you peace of mind so you can plan oil changes around your other commitments.

Horsepower is preserved.
AMSOIL 0W-20 Signature Series Motor Oil's extreme durability ensures that your engine runs stronger and longer. We put Signature Series 5W-30 Synthetic Motor Oil in a Ford* F-150 with a new 3.5L Ecoboost engine to see if it could protect turbocharged direct-injection (TDGI) engines against torque and horsepower loss over a 25,000-mile drain interval. To evaluate horsepower and torque retention, power sweeps were performed at the start and end of the test. Signature Series, as shown in the graph, assisted in maintaining engine performance throughout the 100,000 mile test.

Limits Oil Consumption

AMSOIL 0W-20 Signature Series has a consistent molecular structure that prevents evaporation and keeps the oil where it belongs: on your engine. When oil gets hot, lighter molecules burn off or evaporate, generating volatility (burn-off). As a result, oil thickens, additive imbalances occur, and emissions and oil consumption rise. The NOACK Volatility test is the industry standard for determining the evaporation rate of motor oil at high temperatures. It calculates the percentage of burn-off after a motor oil is exposed to steady airflow at 482 degrees Fahrenheit for one hour. A lower value suggests stronger evaporation resistance. The volatility of Signature Series is well below the API limit, eliminating the need for regular oil top-offs and lowering vehicle emissions.

Easier Cold-Starts
AMSOIL 0W20 Signature Series contains no paraffins (wax) and remains liquid even at -58°F. Other motor oils thicken at extreme cold, denying lubrication to vital moving parts, speeding up wear, and even preventing vehicles from starting. The Signature Series offers a 66 percent improvement in cold-temperature performance for easier starting, higher fuel economy, improved oil flow (as seen below), and less wear.

Maintains Protective Viscosity
We created the AMSOIL 0W-20 Signature Series with higher thermal durability that outperforms conventional and synthetic motor oils in terms of breakdown resistance. The Sequence IIIH Test evaluates a motor oil's capacity to resist the detrimental effects of heat using the Chrysler 3.6L Pentastar engine. The test is carried out at oil temperatures of 304oF, which is 100oF higher than usual operation, in order to increase oil thickening and deposits. Despite the harsh conditions, the Signature Series kept pistons clean and thickening to a minimum of 6%, compared to the intended standard maximum of 150 percent. 1This maintain-grade performance contributes to maximum power and fuel economy while also ensuring advanced technologies such as variable valve timing (VVT) operate as intended throughout the drain interval.
